About Me:
I work out of my home, designing applique patterns - for those who quilt. I have a webpage and also travel around doing quilt shows. You can view my work at www.artfullyapplique.com and i keep adding more here - at the bottom
well, i have realized that what i wrote all those many, many days ago doesn't tell much of what i'm really about. and that has a lot to do with the name i chose - beauty. i have a belief that without beauty, we would die - or at least shrivel up and become mean-spirited. and, so, i was guided to begin designing patterns and to make use of my eye for color - something i didn't know i had before i began quilting. i have been doing that for about 7 years now. when i began i thought i was doing it to help my friend sell her fabric - but things have evolved a lot since then. and now i think it is more about giving other people the opportunity to create beauty for themselves - those who don't consider themselves to be artistic or creative. course we know that everyone is! some of us just don't seem to have permission to 'do' it.
now that's a little closer to what i am about. i'll keep working on it. ^_^
not sure what i am going to add - just seemed time to add something here. ok, i noticed my tendency to invalidate (still?) what i do - as in my creative outlet/expression, etc. these thoughts (today) were triggered by my attempting to respond to an invitation to join a pod. first of all, i had no idea (still don't, really) exactly how a pod works. secondly, this was an invitation to a pod with poetry as its main focus. well, a poet, i am not.
so, in the middle of writing my response to the invitation (having avoided doing so for several days), i decided to click on the link/picture and see what this person had written about himself, etc. of course, when i returned to my writing - it was gone. at that point i gave up on the whole responding idea.
ok, so what does that have to do with what i said at the beginning of this blurb? well, it was the date when this person became a zaadz member and the number of visitors he has had. all i can say is - if one were to use those statistics to determine the value of what they create - applique compared with poetry - well, no comparison. applique doesn't even exist. hmmm guess i just have to trust that other voice that tells me to just keep on keepin on. ^_^
going to add some more just this once more - then next time, erase this part and 'do over'.
have been teaching lately and there has been a lot of validation there. i know applique is not going to 'save the world', but to have people feel good about themselves and what they are able to do - especially those who thought they couldn't and would never be able to - it's a small contribution that still feels good to all concerned. and some of what i have read and tend to believe in is that that is what life is all about - feeling good! as in, feeling love, peace, joy, health and abundance. and having the opportunity to create a little beauty - for yourself and others!
